4 Ways To Effectively Begin Pinning on Pinterest

July 12th, 2016

With the new roll-out of SocialOwl's integration with Pinterest, we thought we'd pull together some facts about, and quick tips for effective posting to Pinterest.

Why Pinterest? As of September 2015, Pinterest boasted 100 million active users. Of the 176 million registered users, a staggering 85% are female.

So how can you grab the attention of these users? Follow these simple tips to effectively start pinning to Pinterest:

1) Optimize your Pinterest name, boards, and pins to be found on Pinterest search

Don't just use your business name, add some key words about your business that will help you to be found. For example, if you are creating a Pinterest account for "Paul's Coffee", consider using a name like "Paul's Coffee - Coffee Shop, Bakery, Cafe". That way, when Pinterest users are searching for a coffee shop, Paul's Coffee will have a higher chance of being found.

Take this same strategy to your boards and your pins. Whenever possible, include relevant keywords you want to be found for as early as possible in the description of your board and pins.

2) Pin Consistently & Often

Strive to space your pins apart from one another while pinning often times per day. Lucky for SocialOwl users, you can schedule your pins ahead of time to make this an easy task to manage. Don't bite off more than you can chew - If you start by pinning 20 times per day then go blank for a week or two, cut down on the number of pins each day to 5-10. It's better to be consistent than to pin large volumes at once and then go dark.

3) Struggling to Pin fresh content every day? Repin!

It's unlikely your Pinterest followers will catch all of your Pins anyway, so repin old pins that are still relevant. This will allow you to keep up with your consistent posting routine while getting your content in front of more followers.

4) Build Relationships with Industry Movers & Shakers

Just like we recommend doing so on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, connect and interact with key influencers in your industry and community on Pinterest too. A simple 'follow' and 'comment' will go a long way to get your business noticed by those influencers and other Pinners that follow them.

These four tips should help you to get started pinning on Pinterest. If you've been an active Pinterest user, what kinds of pins catch your attention?
